Although the re-opening of Disney’s Orlando parks brought vacationers a glimmer of hope during the COVID-19 pandemic, vacation rental occupancy still lags behind last year’s figures. Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation approved Walt Disney World’s reopening procedures on May 29th, but since then, Florida has seen single-day case numbers surge. Between the first week of May and mid-July, adjusted paid occupancy peaked at 36% on June 27th, 2020, compared to 61% in 2019. With case numbers continually rising, it is difficult to anticipate how the second half of the summer season will fare, but we will continue to monitor developments.
