Vacation rentals in Northeast Florida (Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Gulf, Franklin, and Bay Counties) were allowed to reopen on May 19, 2020, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Potential visitors responded with enthusiasm and twice as many reservations were made on May 19 as were made on May 18. Out of guest reservations made between May 19 and May 25, 60% were for arrivals within 30 days (compared to 47% for the same period last year) and 27% were for arrivals within 7 days (compared to 20% last year). Due to the last-minute reopening, Northeast Florida vacation rentals had a better Memorial Day weekend than anticipated; the adjusted paid occupancy rate for the region was 80%, down from 89% for Memorial Day weekend 2019.
