Over the weekend, several markets continued to experience an increase in summer bookings. The southeast region of the United States booked only 53% fewer guest stays than last year on Sunday, compared to 87% fewer bookings on April 12. Specifically, vacation areas around the Gulf of Mexico seem to be performing better (see Florida - Alabama Panhandle and Texas Gulf Coast). The Tennessee Smokies have also been recovering, with only 17% fewer bookings than last year on Saturday. Many visitors are booking reservations for arrivals within the next few months; most reservations made last week for the Panhandle, the Texas Gulf Coast, and the Tennessee Smokies have arrival dates for this summer. Other places in the country are also seeing booking activity return. For example, Phoenix and Central Arizona made 60-80% more bookings over the weekend than 2019- showing not only recovery but an improvement.
