Arrivals Within 30 Days rise as some Outer Banks Counties Announce Plans to Reopen

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are usually a destination where renters book their stays far in advance; in 2019, the region’s average booking window was 153 days. On May 6, officials announced that Currituck, Dare, and Hyde counties will reopen to visitors on May 16 and reservations soared. About 39% of reservations booked on May 6 were for arrivals within 30 days. In comparison, only about 20% of reservations made between March 31 and May 6 last year were for arrivals within 30 days. This is similar to what we’ve seen as Georgia and Baldwin County, Alabama re-opened; renters are rushing to book last-minute stays as soon as they’re allowed.
