Travelers still seem to be valuing seclusion and Watauga County, in the mountains of North Carolina, is benefiting. Guest reservations for vacation rentals in Watauga County increased quickly when Gov. Roy Cooper lifted the state’s stay-at-home order, reaching a peak of 250% higher than last year for the week of May 23. The Adjusted Paid Occupancy rate for June is already at 69%, a peak since the Coronavirus pandemic began and a 27% increase from June 2019.
