COVID-19 cases have recently begun to rise at a significantly higher rate in some states. Arizona, Florida, and Texas have emerged as hotspots with high case numbers but this has not yet impacted the number of guest nights cancelled.

In March, as the pandemic was in its early stages and Americans were advised against or prohibited from traveling, cancellations skyrocketed. The percent of nights cancelled hit its peak in April, when about 80% of all Florida guest stays were cancelled. In these three states, the cancellation rate decreased almost as quickly as it decreased and is now averaging about 10% higher than in 2019.

Despite the recent growth in COVID-19 cases, cancellations do not yet appear to be increasing, showing a clear difference in approaches to traveling between March and July.
