Some popular spring break destinations experienced a brief spike in bookings late last week. As international travel was halted, cruises were canceled, and ski resorts closed, domestic drive-to markets looked like a great option for preserving a spring break vacation. Vacation rentals in Southeast beach destinations experienced up to 2.5x as many bookings for arrivals within 30 days as in 2019. However, the booking rate quickly fell again as more areas, restaurants, and businesses announced closures over the weekend. With spring breaks approaching and the COVID-19 pandemic escalating, the future is still uncertain for many destinations and travelers. Key Data is tracking the data daily as the situation evolves.
